WILMINGTON, Mass. — Patrice Bergeron is the Boston Bruins’ nominee for the 2015 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy as voted by the Boston chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
One player from each of the 30 NHL teams is nominated for the award, which will be handed out to one winner during the 2015 NHL Awards ceremony in Las Vegas in June. The Bill Masterton Trophy is given annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication to hockey.
“He’s a committed athlete and a committed individual, and not just on, but off the ice,” Bruins head coach Claude Julien said.
“His perseverance through everything he’s been through from the concussions to playing with a cracked rib in the playoffs and all that stuff. You can’t hold this guy down. He’s what every coach dreams of being able to coach. Anything he’s nominated for he’s going to get my support because he’s one of those elite players that are hard to find in this game.”
Bergeron also was nominated for the Masterton in 2009. Dominic Moore of the New York Rangers won it last season.
