UPDATE (3:30 p.m. ET, May 1): If Suge Knight is bailed out while awaiting his murder trial, it won’t be because of Floyd Mayweather.

A member of Mayweather’s team told TMZ Sports the boxer will not post Knight’s $10 million bail. Lawyer Matthew Fletcher told TMZ Sports that Knight’s family told him about the bail-money plan, which is why he revealed it.

ORIGINAL STORY: Suge Knight is in jail while he awaits trial for murder, but he’s hoping he won’t be there long.

The Death Row Records co-founder and former CEO had a follow-up arraingment Thursday in Los Angeles, where he’s accused of killing local businessman Terry Carter in a hit-and-run. Knight received a July 7 trial date, but he believes a friend will pay his $10 million bail this weekend.

That friend is Floyd Mayweather.

“My understanding is that Suge is going to be bailed out this coming week,” lawyer Matthew Fletcher told the New York Daily News. “We think Mr. Mayweather is going to win the championship and then come champion the day again. They’re good friends, and there’s no reason he shouldn’t. And we believe that will happen.”

While Mayweather is expected to take home around $150 million — win or lose — after his bout with Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night, the boxer reportedly is already worth $280 million. Apparently Mayweather needs a little extra cash before he can fork over the bail money.
