Just call him Johnny College.

Calgary Flames rookie standout Johnny Gaudreau is doing his part to stay in his mom’s good graces and returning Thursday to Boston College, where he’ll enroll in a class the following day, according to the Calgary Sun.

“Obviously, my mom wanted me to go back to school,” Gaudreau said, per the Calgary Sun. “But she’s happy for me. She’s going to make me go back to school and get my degree, for sure.”

Gaudreau’s return to college life comes after the Flames’ Cinderella season came to a close Sunday with a 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. The Calder Trophy finalist put together a stellar debut season for Calgary, contributing 24 goals and 40 assists during the regular season. But the 21-year-old will be trading silky smooth goals for books this summer.

“Communications,” Gaudreau answered when asked what he’ll be studying. “We’ll see. I might need an internship with one of you guys.”

That shouldn’t be too difficult to arrange.
