And with that, the Matthew Dellavedova era in Cleveland came to an end.
After multiple games of Dellavedova locking down and frustrating Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, the point guard matchup in Game 5 of the 2015 NBA Finals looked like exactly what it was: an NBA backup going up against the league’s MVP.
Curry had by far his best game of the series Sunday night, toasting the Cleveland Cavaliers to the tune of 37 points on 12-of-23 shooting (7-of-13 from 3-point range)Â as the Warriors pulled away late to win 104-91 and move to within one win of an NBA title.
The primary victim of Curry’s offensive onslaught, which included 17 points in the game’s final nine minutes, was Dellavedova, who simply could not keep up as Curry’s threes began to reach “that’s not even fair” territory.
Curry’s final triple of the night — a 29-footer over Dellavedova’s outstretched arm — proved to be the dagger.
It was a good run, Delly.
The Warriors can close out the series and clinch their first championship in 40 years with a win Tuesday in Cleveland.
