Boston Bruins forward Max Talbot and goaltender Jeremy Smith both cleared waivers Tuesday, head coach Claude Julien confirmed after the team’s morning practice at TD Garden.

Smith has been assigned to the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Providence, Julien told reporters. The future for Talbot, who practiced Tuesday despite being placed on waivers a day earlier, had yet to be determined when he met with the media after learning he’d gone unclaimed.

“There’s no more confusion,” Talbot told reporters, via WEEI.com. “It’s something I guess that’s part of the game, part of the business, part of the job. I’m just going to come back here to work every day. I came here to camp with the idea of helping my teammates.

“Right now, I’m not sure yet what’s going to happen to me, meaning if they’re going to send me down (to Providence) or keep me here. But I’m going to have a good attitude, and whatever they ask me to do, I’ll do.”

The 31-year-old Talbot played in 18 games for the Bruins last season and had been fighting for a spot on Boston’s fourth line this preseason. Recently signed veteran Jonas Gustavsson beat out Smith for the team’s backup goalie job.

UPDATE (6:18 p.m. ET): Smith has been sent to the AHL, but not to Providence. The Bruins announced he instead was assigned to Iowa, the Minnesota Wild’s affiliate.
