Stephen Gostkowski Named AFC Special Teams Player Of Week After Clutch Kick

FOXBORO, Mass. — Stephen Gostkowski’s game-winning kick against the New York Giants on Sunday earned him some special recognition this week.

Gostkowski was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week following his clutch 54-yard field goal, which clinched a 27-26 win for the New England Patriots. The kickĀ also put him in sole possession of first on the team’s all-time field goal list with 264.

ā€œThatā€™s the guy you want out there,ā€ coach Bill Belichick said after the game. ā€œYou want your best player in that situation — an opportunity to win the game for you. … Stephen made a great kick.ā€

This is the first time Gostkowski has been honored for his play. He also won this award back in Week 7 for his performance against the New York Jets, and he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in September.

Gostkowski has made all 21 of his field goal attempts and isĀ 34 of 34 on extra points through nine games this season.
