Patriots Select Illinois Guard Ted Karras 221st Overall In NFL Draft

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots further bolstered their offensive line in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Patriots selected Illinois guard Ted Karras with the 221st overall pick. Karras was a four-year starter at right guard with the Illini. He ran a 5.34-second 40-yard dash with a 1.88-second 10-yard split, 8.15-second 3-cone drill, 4.70-second short shuttle, 26.5-inch vertical leap, 8-foot, 10-inch broad jump and 32 bench press reps of 225 pounds at his pro day last month.

Karras is the great nephew of Alex Karras, a former Detroit Lions defensive tackle and actor.

The Patriots also selected offensive lineman Joe Thuney out of North Carolina State in the third round of the draft.
