The world lost a music icon Thursday.

Singer/songwriter Prince has died at age 57. The pop music legend’s body reportedly was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.

Prince’s people told TMZ that the singer had been battling the flu. He appeared at a concert April 16, but that reportedly came on the heels of an April 15 medical emergency that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois.

Prince, whose real name is Prince Rogers Nelson, reportedly cancelled two shows due to health concerns prior to his most recent appearance.

Sports fans likely will remember Prince’s amazing performance during the halftime show of Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4, 2007. It is widely considered one of the best halftime performances of all time.
