It might sound like a joke, but according to an ESPN.com profile of Woods, it happened at least once, and the butt of the joke is the former world No. 1 golfer, who despite all of his extramarital affairs apparently is a little awkward when it comes to talking to women.
The in-depth story centers around Woods’ obsession with the military and how his life and career derailed after his father’s death. But the profile also paints Woods as a socially awkward person, and the story about him, Jordan and Jeter hitting up a New York club sets the scene pretty well.
“Jeter and Jordan circulated, talking with ease to one beautiful woman after another. (Both declined to comment about the episode.),” ESPN.com’s Wright Thompson wrote. “At one point, Tiger walked up to them and asked the question that lives in the heart of every junior high boy and nearly every grown man too.
“‘What do you do to talk to girls?’
“Jeter and Jordan looked at each other, then back at Tiger, sort of stunned.
“Go tell ’em you’re Tiger Woods, they said.”
The Woods feature is incredibly long and incredibly detailed, but it’s certainly worth the time, especially considering how hard Woods has tried to keep his personal life out of the spotlight.
