Jonny Gomes isn’t retiring after all. Not yet, at least.
Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reported Wednesday that Gomes was calling it quits after a 13-year career in Major League Baseball. The popular outfielder since has denied the report, however, casting even more uncertainty over his future in the wake of returning from Japan.
Just talked to Jonny Gomes. He is not retiring

Cotillo later clarified his report after WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford relayed the message Wednesday night that Gomes isn’t retiring.
A source told Cotillo point blank Wednesday that Gomes was retired, leading to his initial report. But apparently, there’s another factor in play. Sources told Cotillo that Gomes and his camp have been in touch with multiple clubs about front office positions since returning from Japan, and teams interested in hiring the 35-year-old for such roles have been told he is retired.
In other words, Gomes’ retirement could come soon enough. But let’s not jump the gun.
