BOSTON — The Red Sox’s unstoppable offense even is getting help from its own fans.

The Red Sox trailed the Houston Astros by a run in the second inning Friday night at Fenway Park, but they loaded the bases with nobody out to create a threat.

That’s when catcher Ryan Hanigan stepped to the plate and hit a soft fly ball just beyond first base. It might have been the inning’s first out, but a young Red Sox fan rescued Hanigan with one heck of a web gem.

We can’t say for sure if Astros first baseman Marwin Gonzalez would have caught this ball over the tarp, but we do know the kid in the blue hoodie reached into the field of play to make an incredible catch.

We also know what happened next: Hanigan laced a two-RBI double to right-center field on the very next pitch, jump-starting a huge five-run inning that gave Boston an early advantage.

Remember, kids: If you’re going to reach into fair territory at Fenway to make an awesome play, just make sure it helps the Red Sox.
