The Boston Red Sox’s infield depth just got a little deeper.

The Red Sox announced Thursday night the acquisition of veteran infielder Aaron Hill and cash considerations from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league pitcher Aaron Wilkerson and infielder Wendell Rijo. The Red Sox also designated Ryan LaMarre for assignment to make roster room for Hill.

Hill, 34, has played in 78 games — 55 starts at third base and 16 at second base — for the Brewers this season. The 12-year veteran is hitting .283 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs.

Wilkerson, 27, has a 6-3 record and 2.14 ERA in 17 combined starts between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. Rijo, an international signee in 2012, split his time between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland this season.
