Julian Edelman: 1-On-1 Time With Tom Brady Always ‘Very Valuable’

FOXBORO, Mass. — Julian Edelman was limited in his return to practice Sunday, but he did receive some 1-on-1 time with his quarterback, and good buddy, Tom Brady.

Brady briefly left the New England Patriots’ full-team scrimmage so rookie Jacoby Brissett could get some work in. During that time, Brady went to the next field over and ran through the route tree with Edelman. Edelman dropped a pass but didn’t appear to be limited by his foot. He underwent a second surgery this offseason to repair a broken foot suffered in November.

“Any time you have 1-on-1 time with any quarterback is very valuable,” Edelman said Sunday. “Today, me and Tom got to throw a few, and that’s always good to see where we’re at and see our timing, have him see mechanics, him see my mechanics, me catch his ball, and it’ll be good to get out here and do that with multiple guys.”

Edelman and Brady already have good chemistry, but the wideout might need to work more closely with Jimmy Garoppolo during training camp this summer. Garoppolo will fill in for Brady as the starter serves a four-game suspension. Edelman chose not to comment on Brady dropping his suspension appeal.

“That’s all in the past,” Edelman said. “I’m just worried about getting out here and trying to get myself in the best physical condition to try to come out here and help this team. I’m worried about that.”
