The Boston Bruins finally may be catching a break.

The injury bug has not been forgiving for the B’s of late, sidelining — among others — top pairing defensemen and multiple top-six forwards.

But Boston could be getting some good news, as head coach Bruce Cassidy indicated Patrice Bergeron possibly could return to the team in time for the third match of their current four-game road trip.

The top-line center has not played since Feb. 25 due to a foot fracture, missing a total of 12 games during that stretch. If he does, in fact, return for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Wild, the number of games missed will climb to 13 games, since he’ll miss Friday’s tilt with the Dallas Stars.

Bergeron was involved in some Hart Trophy discussions up until the injury, as he’s slashed 27-27-54 through 55 games this season — including a four-goal game and a hat trick — while continuing his elite defensive play. His return at full health will be pivotal for the B’s as they look to make a deep push in the postseason.
