Pedro Martinez's return to the majors is nearing closer, and the veteran right-hander will make a start in the minor leagues on Sunday as the next step in joining the Philadelphia Phillies rotation.

Martinez has throw a bullpen session and a four-inning simulated game since signing with the Phillies and will pitch for the Single-A Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League. His opponent will be the St. Lucie Mets, a Single-A affiliate of his former team, the New York Mets.

Pedro is currently on the 15-day disabled list, and the Phillies want him to throw 90 pitches or more before being activated. If he remains on schedule with Sunday's start, his next start would be on July 31.
