Neely, Bucyk Recall Cusick's Lasting Contributions to Bruins Family It was a different era, to say the least, when Fred Cusick started calling Bruins games at the old Boston Garden.

From what began in the early 1950's, Cusick's honesty, passion and friendliness earned him a strong and lasting rapport with the members of the Black and Gold which in turn, made him the Boston legend he will forever be remembered as.

"I’m terribly sad to hear about Fred," Hall of Famer John Bucyk said.
"He was a great broadcaster and we spent a lot of years together, with
him broadcasting our games when I played and then working with him in
the booth. He is going to be dearly missed."

Cusick called Bruins games in every single one of Bucyk's Boston years before the Bruins great joined him in the broadcast booth himself.

Current vice president Cam Neely was another lucky Black and Gold legend to have had the opportunity to have nearly his every movement broadcasted by Cusick.

"It's always a sad day when you lose a member of the Bruins family," Neely said in a statement regarding the passing of the Bruins' broadcaster. "Fred was one of the best play-by-play announcers in the business and he'll always be remembered for his voice and 45-year career with the Bruins.

"On behalf of all the players whose names that Fred announced, I would like to send my condolences to Fred’s family," No. 8 added. "I hope that they can find some solace in knowing how much we respected Fred, and that we will always consider him part of the Bruins family."
