Report: Jim Calhoun, UConn Talking Long-Term Deal

UConn head coach Jim Calhoun built the university into a national powerhouse, and now the university is prepared to extend the 67-year old coach into his 70s, ESPN.com reports.

Calhoun is entering the final year of his six-year contract, which pays $1.6 million per year, and according to ESPN.com, UConn athletic director Jeff Hathaway and Calhoun's agent Jeff Schwartz have had phone conversations trying to finalize an extension.

On Tuesday, Hathaway confirmed to ESPN.com through UConn spokesman Kyle Muncy that the two sides have been talking, and UConn did confirm that a deal could be in excess of three years.

Calhoun, who is entering his 24th season in Storrs, has won 805 games in Division I, including 557 games at UConn.

This season will be Calhoun's 24th at UConn, where he has won 557 games. He was was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005 and has been the coach for two national championships (1999 and 2004) and three Final Fours.
