Hawks' Al Horford Ready to Collect on $10,000 Bet With Paul Pierce Remember the Celtics' epic seven-game series against the Hawks in the 2008 NBA playoffs?

Remember that one particular unpleasant exchange between Paul Pierce and Al Horford at the end of Game 3 after Horford drained a critical jumper that essentially sealed the Hawks' win?

Well, according to Horford and teammate Marvin Williams, the drama was a result of a not-so-friendly bet Pierce proposed. The Celtics captain allegedly bet the then-rookie $10,000 that the Hawks would not win a game in the seven-game set, which the Celtics eventually won.

Horford told Atlanta's 790 The Zone that he hasn't talked to Pierce since the incident and has not been paid.

"Marvin was a witness," he said. "We were at the free throw line and he was telling me that they were going to sweep us and all this and, you know, we bet and I never got anything."

But not all is lost between the two rivals. Pierce may not put his money where his mouth is, but at least his hardwood skills live up to his words.

"I'm not mad at him at all," Horford said. "You know, I mean, he's a competitor like you said and, you know, he wants to win. He's a good player so, I mean, it's fine for him to talk. He's a vet."
