Report: Red Sox Sign Wakefield to Two-Year Deal Tim Wakefield will be back with the Red Sox for at least two more seasons. Wakefield and the Red Sox agreed to a new deal on Monday to keep the knuckleballer with the club through 2011, The Boston Globe reports.

Instead of picking up Wakefield’s $4 million option for 2010, the Red Sox signed Wakefield for $3.5 million for next season. And the right-hander will earn $1.5 million with the club in 2011, including a chance to earn more based on incentives.

The new deal takes the place of the recurring $4 million option Wakefield had with the Red Sox. The Red Sox will now owe Wakefield a base amount of $5 million over the next two years instead of $8 million, though he has the chance to pick up an extra $2 million through incentives.
