David Ortiz's home run on Wednesday didn't earn him a spot in Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

Instead, Ortiz was replaced by Mike Lowell at the DH spot. Lowell, who will bat fifth, pinch-hit for Darnell McDonald in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 5-1 win over L.A., registering a double and an RBI to raise his average to .317.

Lowell, however, sat in favor of Ortiz for Game 3 of the series on Wednesday night.

With the Angels sending lefty Scott Kazmir to the mound in the finale, Ortiz was expected to get the night off. Ortiz has hit .205 against Kazmir in his career and is hitting .188 with one home run and three RBIs against left-handers this season. Lowell has 10 hits in 40 at-bats against Kazmir (.250) and is hitting .263 with one home run and three RBIs against lefties this year.
