The Red Sox have acquired middle infielder Niuman Romero from the Cleveland Indians, adding depth to Boston's minor league corps.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported the news on Twitter and noted the Indians will receive cash in exchange for the Venezuelan.

Romero split time between Double-A and Triple-A in 2009 for the Indians, posting a .240 batting average, .306 on-base percentage and .292 slugging percentage over 418 at-bats. He was recalled to the majors in the September expansion to 40 players, notching 14 at-bats of a .142/.200/.142 line.

The 25-year-old boasts a career .254 batting line over 486 minor league games.

Romero has yet to see game action in 2010 and is expected to report to Triple-A Pawtucket.
