The Red Sox appear to have climbed out from rock bottom, reeling off three straight wins against the Angels after being swept away by the lowly Baltimore Orioles.
It’s been a different story each night. On Monday, the offense exploded for 17 runs. On Tuesday, Jon Lester was brilliant, and on Wednesday, John Lackey had his defense supporting him, keeping the Angels at bay.
There’s been plenty to be excited about, but what’s been the best part of the team’s game?
That’s the question from Beth in Lowell, Mass.
It could be the surprising offense. Jeremy Hermida‘s three-run double helped seal Tuesday’s win, while two homers from Adrian Beltre have him rediscovering his power stroke. Both came after the out-of-control, 17-8 win on Monday.
The starting pitching, too, has been outstanding, with Lester, Lackey and Clay Buchholz picking up wins. The trio combined to pitch 20 2/3 innings, giving up just six earned runs in that span.
And then there’s the defense. The team has taken a lot of criticism for its sloppy defense, particularly because it was sold as a team with a focus on “run prevention.” This week, the Sox have finally lived up to the billing, committing one error in the three games.
So what do you think? If you think the most encouraging sign is the offense, text “SOX1” to 542542. If you think it’s the pitching, text “SOX2” to 542542, or if you think it’s the defense, text “SOX3” to 542542.
The fans were pretty impressed all around, but the offense came out the most impressive with 52 percent of the votes. Starting pitching got 39 percent of the votes, and defense (which never really gets people excited) got 9 percent.
