What’s Your Favorite Red Sox Moment From 2004?

With Kevin Millar making his NESN debut Thursday night, it’s time to get a little nostalgic.

When any Red Sox fan thinks of the man who donned No. 15 before Dustin Pedroia, memories of the 2004 championship run come flooding to mind.

But what’s your favorite? That’s the question from Brett in West Hartford, Conn.

It’s obviously hard to single out a moment as more important than another, but you can still hold one near and dear to your heart.

Narrowing it down to three questions isn’t easy, but was it winning the World Series, beating the Yankees in seven games or the fight between Jason Varitek and Alex Rodriguez?

The first option is obviously the most significant, as the other two would not have mattered as much if they didn’t complete the task at hand. Yet there’s no downplaying the significance of overcoming the Yankees in the postseason, especially considering the Sox trailed 3-0 in the series.

That, too, may not have happened if not for the tussle between Varitek and A-Rod, which many believe turned the season around for the Sox. On July 24, 2004, the Sox were 53-43 and were 9 1/2 games behind the Yankees in the East. Then A-Rod took exception to a Bronson Arroyo pitch, Varitek took exception to A-Rod, and the rest is history. The Sox went 45-21 the rest of the way and barreled into the postseason with loads of momentum.

So which is your favorite? If yours is winning the world series, text “SOX1” to 542542; if it’s beating the Yankees, text “SOX2” to 542542; or if it’s the A-Rod/Varitek fight, text “SOX3” to 542542.
