WIMBLEDON, England — Top-seeded Serena Williams has reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals by beating former champion Maria Sharapova in straight sets in a rematch of the 2004 final.

Three-time champion Williams served 19 aces Monday and won 7-6 (9), 6-4 on Centre Court.

Having fought back from 3-1 down in the first set, Sharapova wasted three set points in the tiebreaker.

At 1-1 in the second set, Sharapova double-faulted to give Williams two break points, and a forehand into the net handed Williams the game.

Williams next faces Li Na of China.
