Alabama began their title run in 2009 with a victory over Virginia Tech. Nick Saban doesn't think Boise State will deserve an opportunity to do the same.
In an interview on Thursday with WFFN, Saban said that his team faced "six other teams that were the caliber of Virginia Tech, or maybe better." This, he said, did not include SEC Title Game foe Florida or BCS Title Game opponent Texas.
Alabama's other opponents in 2009 were FIU, North Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee Chattanooga, and Auburn. Only two of these teams, Ole Miss and LSU, finished in the top 25, and none finished within six spots of number 10 Virginia Tech.
"It's the full body of work. It's not just that you can beat one team, but if you have to beat six or seven other teams and have to play with consistency to do it, I think that goes a long way in saying a lot about what kind of football team that you have. And that's no disrespect that you have, because they may certainly be able to do the same thing if they were put in that circumstance," Saban continued.
Alabama was beaten handily by BCS buster Utah in the 2009 Sugar Bowl.
They will play Penn State on Saturday.
