David Ortiz hopes to have a new deal with the Red Sox soon.

According to The Boston Globe, the two sides are expected to meet next week.

The Red Sox have a $12.5 million option on Ortiz. They could elect to utilize the option or rework a long-term deal with their designated hitter if they do intend on retaining him. Ortiz, who was at the Heat-Celtics game Tuesday night, believes everything will work out one way or another.

The 34-year-old Ortiz hit .270 with 32 homers and 102 RBIs in 2010, his best year since 2007. The slugger said near the end of the past season that he wanted to remain with the Red Sox but desired a multiyear extension.
