Rookie goalie Michael Hutchinson was not expecting to get ice time for the Providence Bruins in Friday night’s season opener against the Springfield Falcons. After starting goalie Matt Dalton allowed four goals in 16 shots in the first two periods, however, coach Rob Murray decided to put Hutchinson in the game.

Hutchinson wasn’t scheduled to play until the P-Bruins’ second game of the season on Saturday night.

“It was nice to get my feet wet and get a few minutes in before my first start,” Hutchinson told Adam Kaufman.

Hutchinson allowed one goal on one shot in the 20 minutes that he played.

“If I get one save [Saturday night], I’ll be doing better than [Friday] night,” Hutchinson joked.
