Pepe Reina Suggests Interest in Manchester United Move

Pepe Reina's longstanding link with a move to Manchester United has continued to intensify, as the Liverpool goalkeeper has spoken out regarding the move — fairly clearly implying interest in such.

When interviewed on Spanish station Onda Cero on Monday night, Reina was far less firm in his commitment to Liverpool than he had been in past public comments, seemingly hinging his future on Liverpool's ability to contend at the highest levels.

"I won’t lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles," he said. "[Edwin] Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course [United] are looking. I can’t do anything. I can’t say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.

"Of course, one likes to fight for titles and be in a team that does that. We always fought to be in the Champions League and try to win the title. But unfortunately, it hasn't been the case in the last couple of years."

While Reina did not explicitly say that he would welcome a move to Old Trafford, he surely did not take the opportunity to deny any interest.

Manchester United reportedly offered £20 million for the man often regarded as the Premier League's top keeper this past summer, but was rebuffed in that bid. Reina, after signing a long-term deal last year, is under contract until 2016. He does, however, have an escape clause in his contract similar to that of Fernando Torres.

Liverpool is currently six points out in the race for the final Champions League spot.
