Alfredo Aceves' Gem Against Tigers Earns Him Amica Pitcher of the Week Honors Few teams have the luxury of a fifth starter who can do more than eat up innings and keep his team in games. The Red Sox have a seventh starter whose ERA is 2.22.

With John Lackey and Daisuke Matsuzaka on the mend, Alfredo Aceves has been forced into the rotation, and he's responded by allowing just two runs in 11 innings of work in his two starts.

Against Detroit on Thursday, Aceves allowed just one run in six innings, throwing 98 pitches — a pretty impressive quantity for a reliever. He even struck out six while picking up the W in Boston's 14-1 romp in Detroit — a performance certainly worthy of Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.

In total, Aceves is 2-0 with a 2.22 ERA in 13 appearances this season. Opponents are batting just .196 against the 28-year-old righthander, and his WHIP is a stingy 1.06.
