Australian news outlet Ninemsn has identified the couple in the photograph: 29-year-old Scott Jones, an Australian native, and his Canadian girlfriend, Alex Thomas.
The media was reportedly able to track down the couple with the help of Jones’ mother, Megan Jones, and her knowledge of her son’s wardrobe choices.
“I knew it was [Scott] because he doesn’t have a lot of clothes with him and he always puts on the same thing,” she told Ninemsn.
The love story goes as follows: riot police had knocked down Thomas and Jones reacted by comforting her with a kiss. How romantic.
