Do Bollywood and ice hockey mix? The new movie Breakaway, scheduled to release in Canada in September, will answer that question.

Even though it may seem like a strange combination, the movie Breakaway — which has a plot eerily similar to that of Bend It Like Beckham — will combine ice hockey and Bollywood. It looks like the movie will have its fair share of riveting on-ice action, as well as song and dance numbers that Bollywood is so famous for.

Vinay Virmani plays the lead character, Rajveer, who tries to fulfill his dream of playing hockey despite his parent’s opposition. Rob Lowe plays the coach of Rajveer’s team, and Russell Peters also stars in the movie. Ludacris will also appear in the movie, according to IMDb.

Some aspects of the movie, in addition to the plot, are very reminiscent of Bend It Like Beckham, including a scene in which Raj’s father tells his son he can no longer play hockey and Raj screams back at his father, “You’ve never even seen me play.”
