Hurricane Irene Forces MLB Teams to Alter Schedules As Hurricane Irene slammed the East Coast, its effects also forced teams to shuffle their schedules on Saturday to deal with the heavy winds and rain.

The Red Sox' game against the A's had to be delayed in the sixth inning, after the teams had rescheduled the weekend's games to avoid playing on Sunday, when the worst of the storm is expected to reach New England.

The teams and the fans waited out the weather in the first game of a split doubleheader, which resumed at 3:15 p.m. A second game is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Phillies entered the weekend playing three-card monty with their three-game series against the Marlins. First, the Phillies moved Sunday's game to Saturday afternoon. Then they postponed the originally scheduled Saturday night game.  Finally, they announced Saturday that the Saturday afternoon game, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, was being postponed with no makeup date announce.

Got that?

The Yankees did the opposite of the Red Sox (of course they did), creating an off-day Saturday and a doubleheader Sunday. The Mets had already rescheduled both weekend games, anticipating a rough weekend in Queens.
