Red Sox Lefty Andrew Miller Earns Amica Pitcher of the Week Honors Facing an offense ranked third in baseball in runs, the Red Sox four-game set in Texas this week figured to be a tough matchup for Boston pitchers. But much to the delight of Terry Francona, the Rangers’ lineup averaged only 2.75 runs per game in the series, considerably below its 5.04 average.

The most dominating performance came courtesy of Andrew Miller, who helped the Sox to a 6-0 victory in Thursday's series finale, allowing Boston to win three of four against Texas. For his mastery on the mound, Miller is the Amica Pitcher of the Week winner.

The left-handed Miller had his best stuff working Thursday night, going 6 1/3 innings and striking out six while surrendering only three hits and two walks. Miller looked particularly filthy against Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton, getting the reigning AL MVP to whiff three times and not allowing him to reach base.

The Rangers went until the sixth inning before finally getting a runner past second base, but the southpaw Miller made sure that was as far as they got with a strikeout, throw out to end the threat.

The 6-0 triumph was Miller's sixth win of the season and helped lower his ERA to 4.42. Though his stat line doesn't jump off the page, the lefty has proven to be valuable to Boston's rotation as the Sox have won nine of the 10 games he has started.
