Ryan Lavarnway won't soon forget the date Aug. 19, 2011 — the day he collected his first big league hit.

The Red Sox prospect picked up the first of what's likely to be many major league hits when he singled through the right side off of Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeff Francis during Friday night's game in Kansas City.

Lavarnway, who was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket prior to Thursday's game in Kansas City, collected the hit after going hitless in his first six major league at-bats. The Yale product was able to collect the hit with his family in the stands, as they arrived in Kansas City to Friday's game after missing his debut on Thursday.

He would later come around and score his first big league run when Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a three-run home run to left field.
