Bruins Rout New York Islanders in Front of Raucous TD Garden Crowd in Preseason Home Opener (Photos) With the Stanley Cup victory still fresh in their minds, Bruins fans packed the TD Garden on Friday night for the team's first home preseason game of the year. They certainly weren't disappointed either, as the B's rallied for a 6-3 victory over the New York Islanders.

The Bruins fell behind 2-0 early, but in typical B's fashion, they continued to battle, eventually taking control of the game with an offensive explosion in the third period. Four of the team's six goals were scored in the third, while Tim Thomas rebounded to keep the Islanders scoreless in the period.

Patrice Bergeron and Rich Peverley each recorded three points, and Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand each had two.

Another encouraging sign for the Bruins was the efficiency of the team's power play, which was an area of weakness last season despite the B's rise to prominence. The Bruins were 2-for-7 with the man advantage on the evening.

All in all, it was a very successful night for the defending Stanley Cup champions (sounds nice, doesn't it?). And while the championship banner won't be raised to the rafters until the regular season opener on Oct. 6, it was nice to finally get a glimpse of what the upcoming season could hold.

It's official: hockey is back.
