The Red Sox had high hopes heading into the 2009 season, and for part of the season, they did exactly what they were expected to do — win.

When the Sox made a deal at the deadline to acquire Victor Martinez at the trade deadline, things looked even better for Boston.

Yet, the Red Sox struggled down the stretch before the Angels finally overtook their October foes in the ALDS. The letdown overshadowed an incredible year from left fielder Jason Bay. In his first full season in Boston, Bay hit 36 home runs and drove in 119 runs.

Away from baseball, Fenway Park was once again a busy venue. Sir Paul McCartney became the latest headline music act to play Fenway. Dave Matthews Band and Phish also played the historic venue.

In September, Fenway played host to a gunshot-filled heist. Or at least that's what the movie The Town told us. Ben Affleck and Co. filmed a few memorable scenes on Yawkey Way, the concourse and the bowels of the old park.
