Red Sox Reliever Matt Albers Wins Amica Pitcher of the Week This was a difficult week to find any positives in the Red Sox pitching staff, but Matt Albers provided at least one reason for optimism.

Albers, who posted a forgettable August in which he posted a 12.34 earned run average in 11 appearances, has shown signs of a turnaround. The right-handed reliever appeared in three games this week, allowing no hits or runs in three innings of work.

For his efforts, Albers is the Amica Pitcher of the Week.

Albers came on in relief Sunday and kept the Red Sox’ 8-4 defeat to the Rays from getting any worse, pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings. The next day against the Orioles, Albers helped polish off an 18-9 victory by striking out the only two batters he faced.

He tossed another scoreless inning Tuesday, with his string of perfect outings ruined only be a hit batter.
