"Torey Lovullo is a leader," said Farrell to the Boston Herald. "His ability and willingness to listen, teachand communicate enable him to connect with many different types of people in order to build relationships. He has a strong passion for the game itself and for the way in which it should be played. He has a keen understanding of the inner workings of the game to make good decisions as they relate to specific in-game situations. These are reasons that he has been a successful minor league coach and manager before. I don't see them changing and will serve him well in any capacity the game has to offer. He is a true professional."
The Red Sox are familiar with Lovullo, as he was the manager of Triple-A Pawtucket in 2010 after spending eight years as a manager in the Indians' farm system. The PawSox were 66-78 under Lovullo.
The Herald also noted that Lovullo was a player for Cleveland in 1998, when now-Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington worked in the front office.
