Sir Alex Ferguson Plans Four More Years in Charge of Manchester United Manchester United's legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson will celebrate a quarter century at the helm of the storied club next month. He plans to extend his reign at Old Trafford by another four years, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

"I've got three or four years left," Ferguson said. "I feel good. But when I do leave, I will leave in place a strong young team that will continue to succeed for my successor."

Ferguson took charge of the Red Devils in 1986 and guided them to their first championship in 1993. It marked an end to a 26 year league title drought.

He has earned plaudits for his ability to amass trophies whilst constantly rejuvinating his squads. He famously flirted with retirement in early 2002, only to make a dramatic U-turn at the behest of his family.

It is unknown who will succeed the venerable Scot at Manchester United, but his successor will be standing in the shoes of one of the modern game’s giants. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been mentioned as a possible heir.
