Teenage hotshot Andreas Pereira will sign with Manchester United once he turns 16. The Brazilian-born playmaker is one of Europe's most highly-rated youngsters and sees Old Trafford as the ideal finishing school, according to the Daily Mail.
"I knew that PSV had given me my chance, but Manchester United is obviously a great club." Pereira reportedly told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "Other British clubs were interested. I thought about it, but Manchester United is a dream club for me. I have been a few times to Manchester United to have a look."
Pereira moved to Belgium with his family as a child and rose through the youth ranks at Belgian club Lommel United. Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven lured him to its famous youth academy and he has gone on to represent his adopted country at the youth level.
Moving to Manchester United will ensure two things. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will give him a chance to earn a place in the Red Devils' team, as he has done for many a talented youngster through the years. Pereira will also spend his late teenage years under the bright lights, media glare and public scrutiny that comes with playing for Manchester United. That pressure is too much for some young players to handle. Others thrive under it.
"I am an offensive midfielder, a real No 10," he said in describing his playing style. "Setting up my team-mates, scoring goals and a good shot are my qualities."
By age 16, Pereira will have already moved from Brazil to Belgium to the Netherlands to England. The well-traveled teenager should adapt to England and English soccer. If and when he does, Ferguson could have another star on his hands.
