Much of the news surrounding the Red Sox involves the club's managerial search, but Ben Cherington and Co. are still busy when it comes to the team's roster.

The Red Sox are one of the teams to have checked in on free-agent reliever Luis Ayala, according to Fox Sports' John Paul Morosi.

Ayala signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees last season and ended up appearing in 52 games in pinstripes in 2011. He went 2-2 with a 2.09 ERA in 56 innings.

Ayala, who turns 34 in January, has also pitched for the Nationals (and Expos), Mets, Twins and Marlins in his career. He is 31-41 with a 3.47 ERA in 429 career appearances.

The Rays have also checked in on the right-hander, Morosi reports.
