Adam McQuaid Leaves Bruins' Win in Ottawa Early As a 'Precaution' in First Game Back from Eye InjuryThere was plenty to be happy about for the Bruins in their 3-1 victory in Ottawa Thursday night. But there was one thing that put a damper on the celebration.

Defenseman Adam McQuaid did not finish the contest. He played his last shift early in the second period and did not return. He played just eight shifts lasting exactly seven minutes, with one shot and one blocked shot.

"It just didn't feel quite right," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "Again, it was a precaution. So we pulled him off. The trainer came up to me and said, 'Are you all right with that?' and I said, 'Absolutely. This isn't the time to even take any sort of chances.' He may be OK and we may [do] nothing more than that, but it was import for us to do the right thing."

McQuaid was playing his first game after missing three games with an eye injury suffered last Thursday when hit into the boards by Washington's Jason Chimera. McQuaid needed 18 stitches to close the cut above his eye, but stated he did not suffer a concussion on the play.

McQuaid has had neck issue before when he was injured crashing into the boards on a missed hit against Philadelphia during last year's playoffs and again early this season when he stumbled into the boards in Carolina. He also suffered a concussion in the 2010 season, when he tripped over some luggage in his apartment in Providence after being sent down to the Bruins' AHL affiliate during the Olympic break.
