Argentine Soccer Fans Ruin River-Boca Derby, Beat Up Stewards in Stands (Videos)Argentina’s soccer fans are among the most passionate in the world, but it’s all too common for that passion to boil over.

The latest occurrence of Argentine fan violence took place Sunday when stewards were beaten by fans during the most high-profile game of the domestic season.

One of the hallowed grounds of Argentine soccer, River Plate’s Estadio Monumental, was the scene of the crime.

Fans of rival club Boca Juniors were caught on video punching and and kicking stewards without mercy or fear of consequences. Many stewards fled to safety, and the mob violence only ended when one of them intervened and pulled a steward to safety.

There were reportedly over 2,200 police and security officers in attendance, but their presence could not prevent fan violence.

For what it’s worth, the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
