The Dropkick Murphys are huge Boston sports fans. When you’re a band that plays the majority of your gigs at night, however, that makes it difficult to catch games.
That scenario presented itself Wednesday night when the band was slated to play a show at the Paramount on Long Island during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Bruins and Blackhawks. Making matters even more difficult was the fact that the B’s and Hawks were going late into the night and eventually into the early morning.
So the Dropkicks did what any other sports fans would do — they put off what they were supposed to do for as long as possible in order to watch the game. The band actually delayed the start of their concert so that they could watch the game. They sent out a tweet to explain the situation. As FOXSports.com points out, the accommodations didn’t stop there. After Chicago defenseman Johnny Oduya‘s goal tied the game midway through the period at just around the concert’s new start time of 10:30, the band and the venue did some improvising.
The big screens at The Paramount played the game while the band played on stage. It’s probably safe to assume the show ended before Andrew Shaw won the game in the third overtime, so the band probably got to see the unfortunate ending.
