2:07 p.m.: While we continue to wait on the agility drills for the defensive backs, let’s look a little closer at the safeties.
Only four safeties ran the 40-yard dash in under 4.5 seconds. Florida State’s Terrence Brooks ran a 4.42, Minnesota’s Brock Vereen a 4.47, Wyoming’s Marqueston Huff a 4.49 and Washington State’s Deone Bucannon a 4.49.
Vanderbilt’s Kenny Ladler (10-foot-7), Bucannon (10-foot-5), Utah State’s Mo Alexander (10-foot-3), Michigan State’s Isaiah Lewis (10-foot-2) and Alabama’s Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Florida State’s Terrence Brooks and LSU’s Craig Loston (all three at 9-foot-11) finished in the top five for broad jump among safeties.
Alexander, Brooks (38 inches), Lewis, Bucannon and Ladler (36.5) had the top five vertical jumps among safeties.
1:52 p.m.: Rich Eisen finally did it. The NFL Network host broke the six-second mark in the 40-yard dash, finishing in 5.98.
1:45 p.m.:Â I’ll wait until the three-cone and short shuttle times have been posted to give my official winners and losers of the final day of the combine, but for now, Jason Verrett, Justin Gilbert, Keith McGill and Terrence Brooks all helped themselves.
Verrett and Gilbert ran well and looked great in drills. Verrett is on the shorter side, but Alfonzo Dennard has proven that shorter cornerbacks still can have success in the NFL.
McGill is 6-foot-3, 211 pounds, and he ran and jumped well. He’s a cornerback for now, but he could move back to safety in the NFL. He played safety in junior college.
Brooks is a shorter safety, but he ran well and moved well in positional drills. He could be a star in the agility drills. Those results aren’t out yet, however.

12:37 p.m.:Â Justin Gilbert ran the fastest 40-yard dash among defensive backs at 4.37 seconds.
Jason Verrett ran 4.38, Bradley Roby ran 4.39, and Calvin Pryor and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix officially ran 4.58. Darqueze Dennard didn’t quite hit the 4.4s. He ran a 4.51.
12:34 p.m.:Â McGill had a vertical leap of 39 inches, according to Mayock. That’s insane for a 6-foot-3 corner. He could cover a 9-foot-6 receiver.
12:29 p.m.:Â Keith McGill did a nice job staying low for such a big guy on the back pedal drill. He ran an unofficial 4.40-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3, 211 pounds. That definitely will turn some heads.
12:19 p.m.: Every single 40-yard dash has been run in the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine. Now we just have to wait on the official times for the defensive backs.
Jason Verrett, Brock Vereen and Keith McGill will be interesting players to watch in the positional drills. They have to prove they have the fluidity to match their speed.

10:56 a.m.:Â Mike Mayock said he projects Jonathan Dowling as a safety, which is interesting. He’s very slender for his long frame. He doesn’t have elite speed, but his size will have teams interested.
10:43 a.m.:Â Kyle Fuller has had a rough day in drills. The Virginia Tech cornerback is staying too high and has flashed limited hip movement. Pierre Desir, Justin Gilbert and Terrence Brooks have been the most impressive.
10:34 a.m.:Â Deion Sanders is a big fan of South Carolina’s Victor Hampton. Sanders keeps calling Hampton a “dog,” which is a good thing, by the way.
10:22 a.m.:Â Lindenwood’s Pierre Desir is helping out his draft stock. He’s a big Seahawks-type cornerback. He’s not the fastest player out there, but he doesn’t need to be.
Oklahoma State’s Justin Gilbert and Alabama’s Ha Ha Clinton-Dix also are having strong days.
10:18 a.m.:Â Deion Sanders is really good during these positional drills. He always knows what to look for, what’s important and what’s not.
This is a solid group of defensive backs, but a few of them could get overdrafted with teams looking for the next prototypical Seahawks cornerback.
10:08 a.m.:Â None of the cornerbacks looked amazing in the “backpedal and turn” drill. I appreciate all the time NFL Network dedicates to the defensive back drills.
10:04 a.m.:Â Florida State safety Terrence Brooks has been impressive today. He ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash, and he’s playing like a cornerback in drills.
Deion Sanders said Dennard’s turns have been “questionable” in positional drills.
9:57 a.m.:Â Darqueze Dennard just looked great in his positional drills. He’s going to be a good one.
9:51 a.m.:Â The first group of defensive backs are done running. Now it’s time to the on-field drills.
Dennard, Fuller and Gilbert all solidified their spots at the top of this year’s cornerback group. Dennard wasn’t supposed to run as fast as he did. He has better size and speed than his cousin, Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard.
Among the safeties, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix impressed with a 4.50-second 40-yard dash, too.
The positional drills can be telling for the cornerbacks and safeties. I’ll be watching closely.

8 a.m. ET: The sixth and final day of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine finally has arrived.
The cornerbacks and safeties are set to work out Tuesday, then the city of Indianapolis will get much emptier. There’s not as much star power as there was on Sunday and Monday, but since this is such a deep NFL draft class, there should be plenty of solid performances at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Michigan State’s Darqueze Dennard and Oklahoma State’s Justin Gilbert are among the top cornerbacks. Alabama’s Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Louisville’s Calvin Pryor are the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked safeties in the class.
We’ll track all the 40-yard dash times and the top agility and jump drills. Gilbert is expected to shine in the speed and agility drills.
