Wade Davis’ wife was feeling very generous Tuesday before Game 1 of the World Series.
After dining at a local Rock & Brews with a couple of other Kansas City Royals players’ wives, Katelyn Davis left her waiter, Ryan O’Connor, a World Series ticket as a tip.
The act of generosity caught O’Connor by surprise.
“I started to walk away when I dropped off their check after they paid, and they said ‘Hold on, I was going to give you a tip, but instead we thought you might want this,’ ” O’Connor told KMBC-TV reporter Scott McDonnell. “And they said, ‘You’re going to sit with us. We’re a pretty cool family.’ ”
“He was pretty blown away, a little bit shocked,” Rock & Brews employee Justin Olmstead said. “He came back into the office and said, ‘Do you guys mind if I have the night off?’ And we looked at him, and he showed us the ticket he had in his hand. And we were blown away ourselves that he was able to have that given to him tonight. So we definitely accommodated him and let him have the night off to go celebrate with all the fans at the game tonight.”
Tickets to Game 1 at Kaufmann Stadium were selling for nearly $1,000 on the secondary market earlier in the week. Unfortunately, O’Connor had to watch the San Francisco Giants wallop the Royals 7-1.
