Athletics Claim Outfielder Alex Hassan Off Waivers From Red Sox

MLB: Spring Training-Boston Red Sox at Philadelphia PhilliesAlex Hassan is no longer a member of his hometown team.

The Boston Red Sox announced Monday that the Oakland Athletics claimed the outfielder/first baseman and Milton, Mass., native off waivers. He made his debut on June 1 of the 2014 season and played in just three games, batting .125 (1-for-8) with a run and five strikeouts.

Hassan was selected by the Red Sox as a pitcher out of Duke University in the 20th round of the 2009 MLB draft. He compiled a .291 average with 42 home runs and 267 RBIs over six seasons in Boston’s farm system.
