If the New England Patriots complete their season sweep of the New York Jets on Sunday, they’ll do so without their top wide receiver.

Julian Edelman did not travel with the team to New York on Saturday and will not play in Sunday’s game due to a concussion, sources told the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe. Edelman hasn’t missed a regular season game since 2012.

The 28-year-old was a limited participant in all three of New England’s practice sessions this week and was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report Friday. He played the entirety of last Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins but appeared on the Patriots’ injury report this Wednesday with a concussion.

Edelman leads the Patriots with 92 receptions and is second on the team behind tight end Rob Gronkowski with 972 receiving yards. He gained 260 of those receiving yards on 22 catches over his last three games.

Tom Brady and the Patriots’ passing attack will rely on Gronkowski, wide receiver Brandon LaFell and possibly tight end Tim Wright or wideout Brian Tyms to step up against a Jets secondary that’s allowed 29 passing touchdowns in 14 games this season.

UPDATE (9 p.m. ET) — The Patriots confirmed Edelman will miss Sunday’s game, but he’s not the only Patriots’ skill player who won’t suit up.

Blount (shoulder) and Arrington (hamstring) both were listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. Blount’s absence could mean an increased workload for Jonas Gray, who had 11 carries last Sunday after receiving a total of three carries in his previous two games.
