Kevin McHale: Dwight Howard Likely Out ‘A While’ For Houston Rockets

BOSTON — It might be quite some time before the Houston Rockets have their big man in the middle back in action.

Center Dwight Howard did not travel with the team to Boston this week as he deals with a right knee injury, and Rockets coach Kevin McHale said before Friday’s matchup with the Celtics that Howard likely will be sidelined for an extended period of time.

“We won’t have Dwight for a while, I’m sure,” McHale said.

Howard has played in just 32 of Houston’s 46 games this season and hasn’t suited up since last Friday, when he played just eight minutes in a win over the Phoenix Suns. His numbers have dipped a bit this season, as well. Howard’s 16.3 point-per-game average is on pace to be his lowest since 2005-06, and his 11.0 rebounds per game is his lowest since his rookie campaign.

Fourth-year center Joey Dorsey will replace Howard in the Rockets’ starting lineup.
