BOSTON — Dallas Stars forward Antoine Roussel could face further discipline for his major penalty in the first period of Tuesday night’s game against the Boston Bruins.

The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Tuesday that it has a disciplinary hearing with Roussel scheduled for Thursday after he cross-checked Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid in the throat areea and knocked him to the ice. The Stars winger was ejected in addition to his major penalty.

“I looked at it real quickly,” Stars head coach Lindy Ruff said when asked if he saw the play. “I didn’t spend much time on it and it’s not an easy one to digest because he gives him a shot in the neck and it’s plain to see it was a reactionary thing, but it’s the type of play that’s hard to defend.”

McQuaid was able to return to the game without serious injury. Roussel was fined by the league in November for sucker punching San Jose Sharks defenseman Justin Braun. He’s earned a reputation as a player who plays on the edge and occasionally crosses the line.
